Youth Athletic Development Webinar Series

This short course provides an evidence base approach to Youth Athletic Development, introducing the concept of physical literacy, the Long Term Athletic Development model and its evolution into the later Youth Physical Development model. The benefits of different training modalities such as resistance training, plyometrics and Olympic Weightlifting are explored, as are the common myths and concerns which surround them. The morphological and neuromuscular differences between boys and girls are discussed, including the importance of biological age vs chronicle age and the key maturation growth metrics such as peak height velocity and peak mass velocity. Finally, the key theoretical concepts that surround positive cognitive, mental and psychosocial wellbeing in youth athletic development are explored, and how the role of coaches, parents and peers can influence mental and emotional changes across childhood.
