300-Yard Shuttle Test

To assess an athlete’s anaerobic capacity relative to a continuous sprint test including repeat 180 degree changes of directions and 25 yard accelerations.

A playing field, athletics track, speed and agility based training area or sports hall that is at least 25 yard in length.

A timing device and cones if required to mark out the distance.                

The test procedure involves the athlete to continuously sprint between two markers set 20m apart in time to recorded beeps instructed via the audio recording.

The athlete starts in a three point start position. The athlete initiates the test in reaction to the assessor’s audible signal. The athlete performs a 180 degree turn upon reaching each 25 yard marker. Each there and back shuttle is 50 yards in total, and the athlete completes 6 full there and back shuttles as fast as possible. Therefore totalling 300 yards.

After a five minute rest period, the test is repeated. The final test score is the average of the two recorded times and is rounded to the nearest 0.1 s.
